Baby Signing Time!

For the last few months, Lulu seemed pretty much the same. We had our sleep schedule. Rolling was mastered. The day from wake- up to bed time was set. Bottles, meals, naps. The day was pretty organized. And Lulu wasn’t doing too much that was new.

And then. Everything happened at once. She got her top teeth in and BOOM. Crawling. Signing. Clapping. Standing. Cruising. More Crawling. More Clapping. Saying “Dada.”

Unfortunately for our kitty, Lulu can get where ever she wants. Which is usually toward the cat. Specifically to get the cat’s tail. It’s just so fluffy and pull-able. Poor Teddy.

Any who. Viddy and I have been signing some basics with Lulu for the last forever. “Milk,” “All Done,” “Up,” “More,” “Book,” “Eat,”  and our recent addition, “STOP!”

When Lulu is crawling toward somethin...

Lulu’s Milestones

Almost 10 months and our very active, happy baby is happily doing everything she’s supposed to do.

Crawling: About a week ago Lulu started to inchworm places. She would bring up her knees and propel herself forward – stopping herself from face planting with her hands. And then she does it again and again and again. And sure enough, she slowly gets where she wants. Today she figured out the alternating hands/knees crawl. And then I took a moment and looked around and realized that I need to BABYPROOF. I’m seeing my house in a whole new light – I’m seeing every single safety hazard! AHHHHH! Other than cupboard locks, baby gates, and outlet covers – any other suggestions??

She also loves to stand and pivot back and forth from parent to toy...

Pessimistic Toys: Dinosaur Walker

It occurs to me by giving my daughter a happy smiling dinosaur, we’re ill-preparing her for a potential future. What if dinosaurs come back? She’ll see the dinosaur and smile. He’ll smile back at her. She’ll try to hug him. He’ll hug her…with his mouth.

Today

This is happening right now

Ok. By right now I mean earlier today.
Background: in an effort to actually do something instead of lounge around in our family pity of a sick baby we had the GREAT idea to go to the mall. A mall that is 45 minutes away. Past two other very nice malls. For a Crocs store grand opening. Even though neither one of us wears Crocs. Until today. And come to find out both the other malls we passed already have Crocs stores…
So, this grand idea meant that we put real clothes on and I attempted to cover my dark circles of lack of sleep (but according to the mall bathroom mirror didn’t do a very good job). So that we could go to the mall, discover that Lulu is TERRIFIED of both helium tanks and the Dyson hand dryers, and spend way too much on squishy shoes.
Now: We are s...

Lulu’s First Day of School

The first day of school is so important to document.

The Very Important First Day of School Outfit, complete with binkie

The backpack. School Supplies. So much learning and growth.

We decided that since Lulu is incredibly advanced and pretty much the smartest baby ever, we’re skipping the regular school and going straight to 2nd year graduate school.

*Cough*

Ok. So, my babysitting plans got a little side railed and Lulu went to class with me.

Question: How many hands do you need to carry a baby, diaper bag, backpack and stroller?

Answer: More than you’re born with.

I couldn’t take the stroller on the bus with the baby in it. But I needed the stroller for Lulu while I was bee-bopping around to class. And my backpack keeps my computer and school stuff...

Reality, enter stage left

Getting any place with a new baby is *slightly* more complicated than just getting myself to… let’s say church.

Sweet, precious Babygirl-O-Mine eats and sleeps when she needs to, regardless of what time we need to be places. I tried to tell her, reason with her, remind her of our timeline and commitments, but she just won’t listen. Sheesh. Babies these days.

Viddy had a 7.30 AM meeting so that left me and Lulu to get ready by ourselves.

Thank Heavens I showered last night. At least I didn’t show up to church stinky and exhausted looking. Just exhausted-looking, which multiple people pointed out to me. Love it when that happens….

Although I was awake, and I use that word very loosly, at 7 AM, it took all of my barely conscious organizational abilities to get to church. Diaper bag. Bottle...

3 weeks of…

Diapers.

Sleeping in 2-4 hour bursts.

Swinging, Rocking, Bouncing, Patting.

Many many loads of laundry.

Burps.

Mini clothes.

Incision pain.

Lots and Lots and Lots of Family help – I literally couldn’t not have stayed sane without it.

Swaddling.

Hormone mood swing craziness.

Weight gain of 2.5 lbs for Little Lulu (She weighs 9 lb 5 oz today!!!!).

Weight loss of 20 lbs for me.

Bright wide blue eyes looking up at me.

Little fingers that wrap around mine.

Today, I realized that she recognizes me! Lulu was crying, getting her diaper changed before I nursed her. And my mom put her on the boppy on my lap and Lulu calmed down a little bit and looked at me and opened her mouth wide and said, “Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah” as she tried to wiggle closer to me...

Happy Birthday!

Little Miss Lulu was born Memorial Day weekend!

Summary: I wanted to go into labor. I ate some spicy food. My water broke at 5 something in the morning. I ate breakfast. I went to the hospital – and little Miss trouble maker was breech (bum down, instead of head down…). We watched episodes of Lost while we waited for the c-section. She was born at 3.51 in the afternoon!

Continue reading for the FULL account.

I joked with Viddy that I practically willed her to come when she did. It would be perfect. He would have a 3 day weekend and then a shortened work week. He could take some time off and then work from home half days and then we’d have another weekend. Since he hasn’t worked at his company long enough to get paternity leave – it would be great, right?

Well, on Thursday I went to my regu...

Insomnia

It only makes sense to write a post titled ‘insomnia’ at 5 am. I’ve already been awake for45 minutes. Lying in bed…. waiting for sleep to come…. I’ve already checked my email, and facebook, and google reader. And this is after waking up 5 times in the middle of the night to pee. And of course Little Miss Lulu is usually awake at this time rolling and kicking and stretching out (or trying).

Viddy is upstairs sleeping. Probably snoring. The kitty is keeping me company – he’s purring like a car motor – probably just happy someone else is awake.

I decided to either write a blog post… or fold laundry. Guess what won?

We went to the hospital tour last night. Viddy enjoyed it because he learned a little bit more about what to expect. I enjoyed it because I got to hospital compare...

Being frugal…. or at least trying

Frugal:

1. economical in use or expenditure; prudently saving orsparing; not wasteful: a frugal manager.
2. entailing little expense; requiring few resources; meager; scanty: a frugal meal.
3. Not something that comes naturally to me
Viddy and I both spent 1-3 years single, working, post-bachelor’s degree. Although we weren’t living extravagant lifestyles by any means, money really wasn’t an issue. I was paying my student loans, taking care of my bills, flying to visit family whenever I wanted, and buying pretty much whatever I wanted. Amazon.com and I became too good of friends…
One summer I flew back and forth from Virginia to California or Michigan 3 times, without blinking at the cost! Now whenever we want to go somewhere it’s two tickets instead of one...
