Baby Signing Time!

For the last few months, Lulu seemed pretty much the same. We had our sleep schedule. Rolling was mastered. The day from wake- up to bed time was set. Bottles, meals, naps. The day was pretty organized. And Lulu wasn’t doing too much that was new.

And then. Everything happened at once. She got her top teeth in and BOOM. Crawling. Signing. Clapping. Standing. Cruising. More Crawling. More Clapping. Saying “Dada.”

Unfortunately for our kitty, Lulu can get where ever she wants. Which is usually toward the cat. Specifically to get the cat’s tail. It’s just so fluffy and pull-able. Poor Teddy.

Any who. Viddy and I have been signing some basics with Lulu for the last forever. “Milk,” “All Done,” “Up,” “More,” “Book,” “Eat,”  and our recent addition, “STOP!”

When Lulu is crawling toward somethin...

Lulu’s Milestones

Almost 10 months and our very active, happy baby is happily doing everything she’s supposed to do.

Crawling: About a week ago Lulu started to inchworm places. She would bring up her knees and propel herself forward – stopping herself from face planting with her hands. And then she does it again and again and again. And sure enough, she slowly gets where she wants. Today she figured out the alternating hands/knees crawl. And then I took a moment and looked around and realized that I need to BABYPROOF. I’m seeing my house in a whole new light – I’m seeing every single safety hazard! AHHHHH! Other than cupboard locks, baby gates, and outlet covers – any other suggestions??

She also loves to stand and pivot back and forth from parent to toy...

Love and Hate: 8 month edition

Lulu is growing and showing more and more of her personality. She has also been quite clear about what she likes and doesn’t like.

Technically, she’s not 8 months for another week. But I say it’s close enough for this post.

Love, or Obsession

1. Teddy – unfortunately for our fluffy feline, Lulu LOVES him. If love translates into grabbing, pulling, and wanting to chomp on. Poor kitty. Lulu barrel rolls toward the kitty, reaches for the kitty, laughs whenever the kitty comes close. I won’t be surprised if her first word is some form of kitty. She sounds like she says “Geegee” or “Kiki” sometimes.

Lulu showing her 'love' for Teddy. Thankfully, Teddy puts up with it.

2. Hair – as in pulling and trying to eat...

Christmas Letter

To all our family and friends, real and imaginary:

2011 has been quite the year for us. You could say that Viddy and I became official grown-ups. Although we are still waiting for the official letter from the government.

Viddy continues to show that life grades on a curve (take your own meaning from that).  He’s working for an amazing company that indulges his inner-nerd while working with a team that he really enjoys. Home ownership has allowed Viddy to exercise his inner-handy man, sometimes much to his wife’s surprise.   Growing grass seems to be a challenge worthy of someone that has a middle name that indicates an occupation in the field of horticulture. Other worthy pursuits include messing with the cat, teasing Fannie, and tossing Lulu in the air...

This is happening right now

Ok. By right now I mean earlier today.
Background: in an effort to actually do something instead of lounge around in our family pity of a sick baby we had the GREAT idea to go to the mall. A mall that is 45 minutes away. Past two other very nice malls. For a Crocs store grand opening. Even though neither one of us wears Crocs. Until today. And come to find out both the other malls we passed already have Crocs stores…
So, this grand idea meant that we put real clothes on and I attempted to cover my dark circles of lack of sleep (but according to the mall bathroom mirror didn’t do a very good job). So that we could go to the mall, discover that Lulu is TERRIFIED of both helium tanks and the Dyson hand dryers, and spend way too much on squishy shoes.
Now: We are s...

Best Laid Plans…..

I had a plan.

The plan involved breastfeeding my baby for a year. I’m all for breastfeeding. I think it’s great. Good for (most) moms and good for babies. I was going to breastfeed Lulu, pump when I was at school, and all would be well with the world.

Lulu latched on great after she was born. She had no problems. I had no problems. It was easy. She would get hungry. I supplied the food. And I enjoyed nursing! I still do. I really, truly, honestly enjoy nursing my baby.

Newborn Lulu, while nursing. Love her little curled up wrinkly newborn hand against my hand.

My body hasn’t quite gotten on board with my plan. My milk supply has plummeted in the last month or so. And Lulu has not gained weight. in 6 weeks. None. Not an ounce...

Four Months

Four months and two days ago Lulu entered our lives. And I love her more than words can express. She is my light and happiness. All my hopes and dreams. My favorite part of any day. Her prescense fills me with a bursting kind of joy.

And I had no clue how encompassing it would be until she was in my life. I could sort of understand it, but not really understand in my heart- until she was here.

At first, after they cut her out of me and showed me her purply squished gooey screaming face, there was just a sense of surrealness. Then there was the sleep-deprived stupor that permeated my existence those first few weeks. There was the beautiful closeness of breastfeeding- of giving her the best thing I could make- literally.

Then there was awareness...

Sleep Training

Ahhhh. The great battle of getting a baby to sleep.

She loves holding onto her muslin blankets to sleep

I’m using this book to establish good sleep habits for Lulu (Thanks, Marcia!!). And it has been right on for where Lulu is developmentally each step of the way. So our ‘sleep training’ process has been gradual.

Get Lulu to fall asleep on her own (check-ish)

Motionless, ocean-sound infused, calm sleep (check)

Consistent Sleep Space (check)

Early bed time – 6.30-7 pm (check)

Regular wake-up time- 7-7.30 am (check)

Regular naps……… well….. we’re working on it.

She hasn’t been sleeping through the night, but as far as I understand, that doesn’t happen for awhile for some babies. Miss Lulu wakes up once around 4 am to eat. Sometimes twice at 2 am and then 5 am.

Pink Overload

Pink is overtaking my life. Pink clothes. Pink shoes. Pink pacifiers.

I feel like all babygirl stuff is pink pink pink pinkalicious with a side of pink.

Some clothing isn’t all pink. But I have maybe two articles of baby girl clothing that don’t have pink somewhere!

Today I am saying no to pink. But then I am conflicted (it happens a lot, it’s because I’m a Gemini…. or am I??). When I go somewhere I want people to know Lulu is a little girl. And I want her to be dressed cute. And so many cute babygirl clothes are pink.

I don’t think Lulu has an opinion on the matter – so today I dressed her in what I wanted. A embroidered top, and navy blue leggings, brown bow. Notice, that the top still has pink, just limited. I’ll let her keep her pink pacifiers, I guess.

Lulu says: I don't care what I ...

Lulu’s First Day of School

The first day of school is so important to document.

The Very Important First Day of School Outfit, complete with binkie

The backpack. School Supplies. So much learning and growth.

We decided that since Lulu is incredibly advanced and pretty much the smartest baby ever, we’re skipping the regular school and going straight to 2nd year graduate school.

Ok. So, my babysitting plans got a little side railed and Lulu went to class with me.

Question: How many hands do you need to carry a baby, diaper bag, backpack and stroller?

Answer: More than you’re born with.

I couldn’t take the stroller on the bus with the baby in it. But I needed the stroller for Lulu while I was bee-bopping around to class. And my backpack keeps my computer and school stuff...
